Day 1

WELCOME TO SITKA

Welcome to Sitka! There’s nothing like a hearty greeting from your crew and some bon voyage bubbly. With all settled in on board, we’re underway. From the bow, Southeast Alaska welcomes us with grand mountain and water views as we leave the sights and sounds of the city behind.

Day 2

Krestof & Nakwasina Sounds

As we make our way along the western side of Baranof Island, the spattering of remote, uninhabited islands provide endless opportunities for adventure. Dropping anchor in a secluded cove, our guides will help us gear up and lead us out by kayak, paddle board, or skiff where we’ll be level with curious sea lions and possibly whales. Rocky intertidal zones make good beach combing. Turn a stone or two to see what’s underneath. Be as active as you would like— there are no groomed trails here—opt for a guided hike John Muir would approve of.

Day 3

Neva Strait & Sergius Narrows

There’s an eerie, enigmatic feeling in these woods as morning fog catches like cotton balls on trees. The aptly named narrows squeezes to only 300 feet wide in one spot and a shallow 24 feet deep. The shorelines are close, and it’s good territory for play. Skiff ashore with an option to hike into the backcountry. See otters back float, working to crack snacks resting on their bellies. Opening at Hoonah Sound, the squeeze is back on. Wind into Neva Strait and watch the scenery change in the late fading light—from the hot tub if you choose.

Day 4

Chichagof Island & Peril Strait

Kick off the morning with on-deck yoga stretches (our guides love it when we join them). Meander through glacier-carved fjords along the Chichagof coast, where we'll find a remote cove to lower the kayaks and skiffs and set off on land and sea explorations. Our eagle-eyed guides lead the pack—and pull up the rear—in search of bears, giant trees, and tidal pools. Later, wend along a twisting channel of Peril Strait known for dramatic currents.

Day 5

Icy Strait

Nearly to the Pacific Ocean, Icy Strait is remote and wild and a favorite spot for whales and marine mammals. Spouts and fin slaps are certain giveaways, as we look for rollicking sea lions and birds, as well as porpoises and dolphins that may hitch a ride on the bow wave. And don’t worry about missing any wildlife; it’s a favorite mission of the crew to point out any creatures they spot. We'll head for a quiet pocket along the rugged coastline and skiff the shore along kelp-threaded channels.

Day 6

Glacier Bay National Park

This UNESCO World Heritage Site and Biosphere Reserve encompasses some of our continent's most amazing wilderness. At Bartlett Cove, a park ranger joins in on our day’s exploration and shares the park’s history. Orange-beaked puffins, guillemots, marbled murrelets are just a few possible sightings for today as we watch for sea lions, mountain goats, and lower along shore, foraging bears. Up bay, glacial silt turns the water a milky white as we approach Margerie and Grand Pacific Glaciers—one holding steady, the other retreating. End this very full day with our feet up for the sail along Chicagof Island.

Day 7

Chatham Strait

Chatham Strait (or Lynn Canal), the captain makes the call. Either choice, we'll enjoy an adventure along the rocky outcroppings. By kayak or paddle board, take in the size of this wilderness. Bald eagles dot the treetops, harbor seals play peekaboo, pods of orcas—the largest in the dolphin family—skim along the water’s surface. Tonight we'll toast our voyage with a festive Farewell Dinner and a “photo journal” of your trip—a gift to you from your expedition team.

Exploration of Washington Wines

Day 1

Arrive Seattle

Welcome to the Emerald City! Seattle's unique location, tucked between the Puget Sound to the west and Cascade Mountain range to the east, its tech boom, and its love for coffee, wine, and beer all contribute to its popularity, particularly during the balmy summer months. With many Alaska-bound flights passing through Seattle, what better time to take a few extra days to experience what this Pacific Northwest city has to offer.

Dinner

Overnight at Thompson Seattle or similar

Day 2

Washington Wineries

Washington is the second biggest wine-producing state in the US and home to one of the country's most dynamic fine wine industries. Today we visit some of Washington's up-and-coming wineries to taste wines from across the state and learn about what distinguishes the wines from this area. Enjoy a gourmet lunch before exploring Woodinville's abundance of small, vibrant tasting rooms. Dinner is on your own tonight in Seattle.

Breakfast, lunch

Overnight at Thompson Seattle or similar

Day 3

Pike Place Market

This morning, take a stroll down to the iconic Pike Place Market to browse the stalls of fresh seafood, locally grown produce, specialty artisan foods, and handcrafted items and do some last-minute shopping before we head to the airport for our short flight to Alaska.
