Pepper Bridge Winery's Director of Winemaking, Jean-François Pellet, invites you on an unforgettable journey to discover the sights, sounds, and tastes of Northern Portugal. From the riverfront city of Porto, full of Old World charm, to the spectacular vineyards and terraced hillsides of the Douro Valley, experience the amazing wines, flavorful cuisine, rich cultural heritage, and dramatic views of this enchanting region. Highlights of the week include a visit to a Douro Valley wine estate founded in the 16th century, a stroll through the bustling markets of Porto, and a hands-on cocktail-making workshop.

Day 1
Arrive in Lamego
Welcome to Portugal! An Experi driver will greet you at the Porto airport and transport you to our hotel situated in the Alto Douro. Check in and have some time to relax and get settled. This evening, we’ll kick things off with introductions and a cocktail followed by a special Welcome Dinner at the hotel’s restaurant where we’ll have our first foray into the region's rich gastronomic offerings.
Day 2
Douro Valley
After a leisurely morning, we’ll take a short drive along the river to a contemporary-style restaurant for a delicious wine-paired lunch with breathtaking views over the vineyard-covered hills. Following lunch, we’ll continue further along the river to an acclaimed quinta (wine-growing estate), where we’ll have a guided tour of the property, taking in the incredible landscape and learning about the winemaking process followed by a tasting. Later, return to the property for an open evening.
Day 3
Pinhão
Today we’ll visit two quintas for tours and tastings, starting with one founded in the 16th century that is the oldest firm still active as a port wine producer. Our visits will provide further insights into the Douro Valley's rich wine heritage and deepen our understanding of the region's varied wine styles and the unique characteristics of the wines. After the first visit, we’ll enjoy a picnic lunch with in a picturesque setting followed by a scenic cruise on the Douro River showcasing the region’s terraced vineyards and historic quintas from a different vantage point. As the day wraps up, we’ll return to the property for a leisurely evening.
Day 4
Cocktail Workshop
On our last full day in the Douro Valley, we’ll have a free morning to enjoy the offerings at the property. This afternoon, we’ll head to Casa de Mateus for a visit to the historic property, light lunch, and tasting of their wines. We’ll then make our way to a well-known estate in the Douro region to partake in a fun and informative cocktail-making workshop where we’ll become familiar with the characteristics of our ingredients and learn the art of mixology. After this experience, we’ll sit down together to savor a meal highlighting the flavors of the region.
Day 5
Vila Nova de Gaia
Today we bid farewell to the majestic Douro Valley and venture to the bustling city of Porto. We begin our exploration of Porto's famed port wine heritage with visits to two port lodges in Vila Nova de Gaia, where wine from the Douro Valley has been transported to age. Guided tours and tastings reveal the fascinating process behind port wine production, from vine to glass, and enable us to savor the complex nuances and compare the flavors of this sweet, fortified wine. In between visits, we’ll enjoy a wine-paired lunch of regional flavors.
Day 6
Porto
After breakfast, we’ll start the day with a guided walking food tour to acquaint us with the city. The city's architecture narrates a fascinating tale of Roman, Moorish, and Christian influences— a testament to Porto's strategic significance throughout history. Along the way, sample some local flavors at bustling markets and tucked-away eateries. After the tour, enjoy free time to explore the city at your own pace.
Day 7
Porto & Farewell dinner
We’ll have a leisurely morning and ample free time today for any last-minute shopping and sightseeing. One option to check out is the WOW cultural district, dedicated to the celebration of wine and gastronomy. Here you'll find the interactive WOW-Wine Museum, which offers an immersive adventure into the world of wine. We'll meet back up in the late afternoon for a wine & bites tasting, and this evening we'll celebrate our journey with a festive farewell dinner at a local port lodge.
Day 8
Departure
After breakfast, you will be transferred to the Porto airport. Not ready to leave Portugal behind? Continue your journey with an optional four-day extension.
Day 8
Amarante
Depart after breakfast, traveling northeast through the rolling green countryside toward the Vinho Verde wine region— the largest wine-growing region of Portugal. Along the way, we'll stop at a winery for a tour, tasting, and light lunch. We'll continue to the historic town of Guimarães, the birthplace of Portugal's first king, and enjoy a short visit before continuing to our accommodations surrounded by the vineyards of Vinho Verde. As evening falls, look forward to a wine-paired dinner of regional dishes at the property.
Day 9
Magic of Vinho Verde
After breakfast, embark on a journey through the relatively young and dynamic Vinho Verde wine region. Visit the distinguished Quinta de Santa Cristina for a tour and tasting followed by a tasting room lunch of local products.
In the afternoon, explore another acclaimed winery, deepening your understanding of Vinho Verde's unique wine styles. Return to the property for a leisurely evening.
Day 10
Vinho Verde Delights
This morning, we’ll make our way to a family-run winery in the heart of the region. Learn about the local grape varieties during a guided tour that delves into the production methods of Vinho Verde winemaking. Afterward, enjoy a picnic lunch at the property and have time to relax and savor your final evening in this lush vineyard setting.
Day 11
Departure
After breakfast, you will be transferred to the Porto airport, marking the conclusion of your wine journey through Portugal's northern regions.

Monverde Wine Experience Hotel (Extension)
Located in the heart of the Vinho Verde wine region, this property merges the serenity of the vineyard landscape with contemporary design and comfort. The hotel offers an on-site restaurant and bar, fitness center, tranquil spa offering vinotherapy treatments, sun terrace, garden and an outdoor pool (seasonal) for leisurely relaxation. This trip has been designed to include daily exploratory walks that range from one to three hours. Each day, whether touring a city or winery, guests should be prepared to be on their feet for multiple continuous hours. Guests should feel comfortable strolling along cobbled surfaces, walking up and down stairs, and sauntering down uneven nature paths. Europe tends to have Old World infrastructure (narrow cobblestone streets, lack of elevators, etc.), which can leave some areas inaccessible. Typically, our more invigorating walks are included as optional activities. If your mobility is limited in any way, or if you have questions, please contact our Guest Services team at guestservices@experi.com.
