This evening, we’ll kick things off with introductions and a cocktail followed by a special Welcome Dinner at the hotel’s restaurant where we’ll have our first foray into the region's rich gastronomic offerings.
Day 2
Douro Valley
After a leisurely morning, we’ll take a short drive along the river to a contemporary-style restaurant for a delicious wine-paired lunch with breathtaking views over the vineyard-covered hills. Following lunch, we’ll continue further along the river to an acclaimed quinta (wine-growing estate), where we’ll have a guided tour of the property, taking in the incredible landscape and learning about the winemaking process followed by a tasting. Later, return to the property for an open evening.
Day 3
Pinhão
Today we’ll visit two quintas for tours and tastings, starting with one that was founded in the 16th century and is the oldest firm still active today as a port wine producer. Our visits will provide further insights into the Douro Valley's rich wine heritage and deepen our understanding of the region's varied wine styles. In between visits, we’ll sit down for a wine-paired lunch in a picturesque setting followed by a scenic drive through the valley to a second quinta. Here we'll learn about their winemaking techniques and traditions and savor the unique characteristics of their wines. As the day wraps up, we’ll return to the property for a leisurely evening.
Day 4
Cocktail Workshop
On our last full day in the Douro Valley, we’ll have a free morning to enjoy the offerings at the property. This afternoon, we’ll head to Casa de Mateus for a visit to the historic property, followed by a tasting of the wines produced at the on-site winery. We’ll then make our way to a well-known estate in the Douro region to partake in a fun and informative cocktail-making workshop where we’ll become familiar with the characteristics of our ingredients and learn the art of mixology. After this experience, we’ll sit down together to savor a meal highlighting the flavors of the region.
Day 5
From the Douro Valley to Porto
Today we will bid farewell to the majestic Douro Valley and venture to the bustling city of Porto. We will begin our exploration of Porto's famed port wine heritage with a visit to one of the port lodges of Vila Nova de Gaia where wine produced in the Douro Valley has been transported to age. A guided tour and tasting reveals the fascinating process behind port wine production, from vine to glass, and enables us to savor the complex nuances of this sweet, fortified wine. We’ll enjoy a wine-paired lunch of regional flavors, before heading to our accommodation to check in. Dinner is on our own this evening.
Day 6
Porto & Vila Nova de Gaia
After breakfast, we’ll start the day with a guided walking food tour to acquaint us with the city. The city's architecture narrates a fascinating tale of Roman, Moorish, and Christian influences— a testament to Porto's strategic significance throughout history. Along the way, sample some local flavors at bustling markets and tucked-away eateries. After the tour, enjoy free time to explore the city at your own pace.
In the late afternoon, we will visit a second port lodge, offering another perspective on port wine production and the opportunity to compare the tastes. We’ll then return to the property for an open evening.
Day 7
Porto & Farewell dinner
We’ll have a leisurely morning and ample free time today for any last-minute shopping, independent sightseeing, and packing. One option to consider is a visit to the WOW cultural district, which is dedicated to the celebration of wine and gastronomy and is home to the interactive WOW-Wine Museum. In the afternoon, stroll to a nearby wine bar for a guided tasting. Later this evening, we'll gather at a local restaurant to toast our journey and enjoy a memorable Farewell Dinner.
