Learn about its historic past and see its striking architectural treasures including the medieval Hôtel Dieu des Hospices de Beaune. Enjoy lunch at a local bistro featuring seasonal dishes made from premium ingredients. This afternoon, enjoy free time to relax.
One optional activity is to visit the Cité des Climats de Bourgogne, a modern center that explores the cultural wealth and diversity of Burgundy wines, before returning to the hotel for an open evening. Our Travel Director is happy to provide recommendations.
Day 3
Puligny-Montrachet
After breakfast, we'll immerse ourselves in the Côte de Beaune wine-producing district of Burgundy, driving south to Puligny Montrachet appellation, where the patchwork of historic Climats— precisely defined vineyard parcels, each with its own unique character and centuries-old identity— showcases Burgundy's finest terroirs. We'll visit two prestigious estates for informative tours of their cellars and guided tastings of their acclaimed wines. Surrounded by vineyards, enjoy a wine-paired lunch of local flavors at the first estate before continuing to the next historic château. Return to Beaune in the late afternoon for an open evening.
Day 4
Aloxe Corton
Today, we'll compare the wines of Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits, heading first to the village of Aloxe Corton, famous for its Grand Crus. We’ll visit a family-run estate for a tour, tasting, and wine-paired lunch prepared in the Burgundian tradition. Next, we'll visit a family-owned estate in the heart of Vosne-Romanée. Explore the estate's vineyards, step into the cellar for a look at the wine-making process, and take part in a guided tasting of their elegant, Pinot Noirs, including selections from renowned Premier and Grand Cru parcels. Return to the hotel afterward for a free evening in Beaune.
Day 5
Dijon
This morning, we venture through pastoral countryside to Dijon, the capital city of the Burgundy region. Meet a knowledgeable local guide for a tour of this lively city, home to powerful dukes during the 14th and 15th centuries. As one of the few French cities spared from major destruction during World War II, Dijon offers a well-preserved architectural heritage that reflects the town’s rich history. Following the tour, we’ll visit the Cave de la Cité for a tasting of local wines and a light lunch. The afternoon and evening are open to continue exploring this pedestrian-friendly city. You might want to check out the newly opened Cité Internationale de la Gastronomie et du Vin de Dijon, which has immersive exhibitions and shops dedicated to French gastronomy. We’ll gather again this evening for a traditional wine-paired dinner at a nearby local restaurant.
Day 6
Gevrey-Chambertin
Today, we'll continue to explore the different terroirs of the Côte de Nuits subregion, starting with a special visit to the historic Château du Clos de Vougeot, one of Burgundy's most renowned Climats. Originally built by Cistercian monks in the 12th century, the château played a crucial role in Burgundy's winemaking heritage. See the ancient cellar, winepresses, and monks' dormitory and learn about the development of winemaking in the region. Next, continue to the village of Gevrey-Chambertin, known for its Grand Cru vineyards and exceptional Pinot Noir wines, and enjoy a wine-paired lunch at a family-run estate. We'll return to Beaune afterward for a relaxing evening.
Day 7
Beaune
On our last full day in Burgundy, we’ll have an open morning to do any last-minute shopping or sightseeing and enjoy Beaune at our own pace. In the early afternoon, we’ll gather for a final afternoon of wine tasting and historic cellar visits capping off our day with a festive Farewell Dinner in a mansion with cellars dating back to the 18th century.
Day 8
Departure
After an early breakfast, take a private transfer to Lyon Airport. Still hungry for more adventure? Continue the journey with an optional four-day extension to the Northern Rhône. Bon Voyage!
Day 8
Lyon
After breakfast, we’ll leave behind the picturesque countryside and make our way to the cosmopolitan city of Lyon— considered the gastronomic capital of France and a paradise for food lovers. Upon arrival, enjoy free time to explore the Renaissance neighborhood of Vieux Lyon and find a spot for lunch, perhaps at Les Halles de Lyon-Paul Bocuse, an iconic food market filled with local specialties and artisanal delights. Stroll through the cobblestone lanes and hidden medieval passageways filled with classical architecture and colorful shops. This evening, venture out for dinner at a traditional Lyonnaise restaurant.
Day 9
Côte-Rôtie
In contrast to the gently rolling hills and small plots of Burgundy, the northern Rhône is famous for its dramatic landscape of steeply terraced vineyards and granite hillsides where all the work must be done by hand. On our first day in the region, we’ll join an expert wine guide to explore the wineries of Côte-Rôtie, celebrated for its exceptional Syrah wines. We’ll visit prestigious estates, explore both vineyards and cellars, and enjoy guided tastings that highlight the complexity and elegance of Côte-Rôtie. With luck, we may have the opportunity to meet the passionate winemakers and gain firsthand insight into their craft and dedication to this historic appellation.
Day 10
Condrieu
After a leisurely morning, we’ll join our expert guide and shift our focus to the neighboring appellation of Condrieu, celebrated for its white wines crafted from the Viognier grape. In comparison to the bold, complex reds of Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu’s wines offer an aromatic and elegant counterpoint reflecting the unique granite soils of the region. We'll have lunch along the way and enjoy breathtaking views of the Rhône while tasting the excellent white wines of Condrieu. Later, return to the hotel and have free time to freshen up before a gourmet dinner featuring traditional Lyonnaise cuisine.

Europe tends to have Old World infrastructure (narrow cobblestone streets, lack of elevators, etc.), which can leave some areas inaccessible. Typically, our more invigorating walks are included as optional activities.
