Lyon on the Saône River

This departure launches in Lyon, where you can explore the famous open-air markets before setting sail for the charming town of Mâcon.

Situated along the Saône River in Southern Burgundy, Mâcon is known for prestigious and elegant wines, historically significant cathedrals, and stunning pastel-hued architecture lining the riverbanks. From Mâcon we visit the southern Burgundy countryside to participate in an Experi-exclusive wine tasting and tour.

In the riverside commune of Chalon-sur-Saône, we explore the Côte Chalonnaise and Côte de Beaune wine regions. The town of Chalon is situated within Burgundy’s Route des Grands Vins, a region that features idyllic terrain with more than 40 wine villages and UNESCO World Heritage winning producers.

Back in Lyon, coined the “gastronomy capital of the world,” we stroll down cobbled passageways in Vieux Lyon, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and taste the essential nature of this city along the way. Explore the Halles de Lyon Paull Bocuse — the city’s indoor food market filled with delicious treasures, and savor the bountiful regional produce and Lyonnaise specialties on display in one of the city’s many open air markets. Cruise toward Provence, enjoying the views of Renaissance architecture and picturesque countryside.

Chateaunuef-du-Pape

In the ancient city of Avignon, filled with magnificent art and architecture, we wind down streets with boutiques, artisan stores and cafés. Explore the Palais des Papes, the world’s largest Gothic palace. We discover the renowned wine region of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, where vineyards cover more than 7,900 acres of land.

From the ancient port city of Arles, along the Rhône River, we visit a charming Provençal village for a culinary workshop to experience French cooking. Learn local techniques, ingredients, and recipes as we craft a lunch to be enjoyed with local wines.

Les Baux de Provence Village

In Les Baux-de-Provence, we explore the breathtaking Carrières de Lumières, a quarry turned art installation. Stroll around the quaint village of Les Baux to take in daily life in this culture-rich community.

In the port of Châteauneuf-du-Rhône, explore the Ardeche Gorge and rejoin the ship in Le Pouzin for a farewell dinner. Having sipped and savored our way through three renowned French food and wine regions over the course of one week, we arrive back in Lyon well-fed, watered, wined and satisfied with the incredible journey only an Experi Reserve river ship trip can provide.
